Verneukpan Rest Camp

Verneukpan is ideal for nature lovers, photographers and the camping lovers pursuit of magnificent
sunsets and sunrises, wide-open spaces, blue skies, desert colours and unique beauty. Come and
experience the breathtaking and captivating sight of the full moon rising over the horizon! The clear
starry nights are any campers dream with unpolluted skies, situated just outside the Square Kilometre
Array (SKA) area. On a crisp wintery evening the Milky Way will feel so close you can nearly touch it!
Bring your tent, camping trailer or oAroad caravan and come and enjoy the peace and silence.

Verneukpan Rest Camp is a 10 000ha sheep farm in the Boesmanland, that overlooks the magnificent
and famous Verneukpan. The farm is situated between Brandvlei and Kenhardt on a gravel road. It is
the ideal stop and overnight for campers visiting Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Augrabies National Park
or the Namakwaland 4X4 Eco trail. You can also visit and see the famous Sir Malcolm Campbell’s
track on which he unsuccessfully attempted to break the world land-speed record in his Bluebird 1 in
1929.
The wildlife is restricted to the typical arid area species. Steenbok, Bat eared fox, Black backed Jackal,
Wild Cat, Caracal, Porcupine, Cape gray mongoose, Meerkat, Aardvark, Scrub hare, the Karoo
Korhaan and plenty more birds and insects. We also have ±14 Springboks on our farm, which
regularly can be seen on the pan.

This is truly “roughing it up “! There is no electricity or phone reception, so be prepared

100% oA -grid. The nearest town is Kenhardt which is 79 km away. Please also make sure to fill up your
vehicle at the nearest town when coming in. There is no running water so please bring your cans of
water with you. There is also no designated camping spots you can stand wherever your heart desires.
Also note there is no ablution facilities.
You need to bring whatever you need to be self-suAicient for example drinking water, lights , braai
rosters, shower, shovel, waste bags and enough fuel. Also make sure to leave them pan in the same
condition that you found it. We do not want bags, plastic, cigarette butts or toilet paper left behind.
Please take back everything including your waste. You are welcome to make a fire, so you may bring
firewood for the cosy fire.
The nights on the pan can get somewhat chilly (especially in winter time) so make sure to come
prepared with jackets and enough blankets.
