Pepper Tree Cottage - Joubertskraal Farm
Joubertskraal Farm, ideally situated near the 4×4 track to the Baviaanskloof in the Kouga Mountains, is a unique, wilderness farm and forms part of the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve – a World Heritage Site. Nature lovers, mountain bikers, hikers, birders and those searching for true wilderness and peace will enjoy what we have to offer on our 1500ha farm.
Pepper Tree Cottage provides guests with elegant, comfortable, farm-style accommodation. Lovingly restored, the cottage is ideal for a couple or small family – in one double bedroom and on a double sleeper-couch in the living room. The kitchen is fully equipped with a bar fridge, 2 burner gas stove and a wood-burning stove in winter. The cottage’s unique bathroom boasts a deep, Victorian style bath tub and shower. The eclectic décor combines antique fittings and African artwork with local farm paraphernalia. Bedding and towels are provided.
In true wilderness style, and to minimise the carbon footprint, electricity is generated by solar power. Waste is either composted or recycled. Blackwood timber, from our ongoing alien-clearing project, and natural materials sourced on the farm, were used in the cottage’s restoration.
Olive Tree Campsite is basic and rustic. Situated on a field alongside a period stream and below a colourful rock-formation cliff, it has a beautiful old Wild Olive tree under which to camp, a stone braai, campfire place and washing-up sink. The unique ablution shed is rustic and eclectic with a flush toilet and hot shower. We guarantee privacy and exclusivity by allowing only one group of visitors at a time. There is no limit to the size of the group. Unlimited firewood is provided free of charge. Guests are asked to bring their own drinking water and all of their own camping equipment (please note: we do not supply any camping gear). Camping rates are R90 per person per night.
