Cumberland Nature Reserve
Cumberland is 570ha of savannah, acacia woodland, spectacular red cliffs, deep forested valleys and waterfalls on the Umgeni and Rietspruit River. We are also part of a 3500ha Conservancy bordering our reserve so one can gaze beyond our borders onto more beautiful bush and farmland beyond.
Cumberland is a place where walkers, birders, botanists, entomology enthusiasts or those who just want to get away from it all on this private nature reserve to just ponder, meander, hike or use your mountain bikes to enjoy the freedom of exploring this beautiful and peaceful hidden gem. As mentioned Umgeni River forms part of the boundary of the reserve and is home to many species of freshwater fish as well as some resident crocodiles.
Guests can enjoy the choice of 3 comfortable self-catering cottages, a romantic rustic hut with an amazing view or a choice of 3 campsites offering different options. Please look at our website www.cumberlandreserve.co.za to see more detail about our accommodation.
We are 20 mins west of the N3 and Pietermaritzburg, an easy getaway from Durban especially.
